Houston Mayor Annise Parker will present a City Proclamation to community partner Data Shredding Services of Texas, Inc. acknowledging the company’s generous contribution of services benefiting Houston residents. Over the past four months, Data Shredding Services has provided document shredding services free of charge to Houston residents as part of the City’s Identity Theft Prevention & Document Shredding Initiative. The initiative is sponsored by the Mayor’s Citizens Assistance Office, a division of the Department of Neighborhoods, and the Houston Police Department (HPD). Thus far, DSS has shredded over 40,000 pounds of paper materials for area residents.

Launched in April, the initiative consists of monthly events at selected HPD stations offering residents the opportunity to safely dispose of confidential documents and learn about measures they can take to prevent identity theft. Upcoming events are listed below.
