Mayor Annise Parker & Texas Business Mogul Farouk Shami Headline Honorees at Texas Black Expo Corporate Breakfast and Luncheon

HOUSTON (May 2012) – The 9th annual Texas Black Expo is rapidly approaching, and communities around the state are preparing to converge on the city of Houston for the Juneteenth Summer Celebration, the largest celebration of the annual holiday in the state of Texas. Since 2011, the Texas Black Expo has focused its annual theme on adding faces of color to the green movement, and this theme has permeated each of its attractions, including its corporate events that will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel on Friday, June 15th.

Signature events for the corporate community include Friday’s “Green Giants” Corporate Breakfast and the Elected Officials Luncheon and Economic Empowerment / Eco-Enterprise Summit co-presented by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, Houston Area Urban League and Houston Citizens Chamber of Commerce. Recently, Jason Few, President of Reliant and Dr. Bryan Shaw, Chairman of Texas Commission of Environmental Quality were announced as keynote speakers. Now, the Texas Black Expo is proud to announce honorees for the corporate events.

Awards presented for the “Green Giants” Corporate Breakfast are designed to recognize and highlight organizations and individuals that have shown exemplary leadership in preserving the environment and for their efforts in advocating for a cleaner, greener planet in the fields of education, entrepreneurship and corporate leadership.

Honorees for the 2012 “Green Giant” Corporate Breakfast include: Mayor Annise Parker, who will receive the Green Advocate Award, Kim Roxie (owner of Lamik Cosmetics), who will receive the GreenPreneur Award, and Reliant Energy, who will receive the Corporate Green Giant Award.

“The City of Houston is committed to doing its part to help in the preservation of our environment,” said Mayor Annise Parker, who will be present to accept her award at the Corporate Breakfast. “I commend the Texas Black Expo for its efforts in extending the Green movement to all communities.”

Honorees at the Texas Legislative Black Caucus Elected Officials Luncheon include: Farouk Shami, who is the Chairman of Farouk Systems, and Deavra Daughtry, Founder of the Texas Women’s Empowerment Foundation.

The “Green Giants” Corporate Breakfast will kick-off the Economic & Eco-Enterprise Summit at the Four Seasons Hotel. Some of the sessions will include: “Preparing and Positioning Your Business for Profits” and “How to Do Business with State Agencies and other Multi-Million Dollar Organizations”. Panelists will include members of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, Health & Human Services Commission, Texas Department of Transportation, Port of Houston, and the City of Houston, among others.

In addition to the Corporate Breakfast, Empowerment Sessions, and Elected Officials Luncheon, there will also be a showcase of various corporate and state agencies that will be present to discuss business opportunities with attendees.

All Empowerment and Eco-Enterprise sessions are FREE to the public. Tickets to the Corporate Breakfast and Elected Officials Luncheon are $75 and include a complimentary one-day adult admission to the Juneteenth Summer Celebration tradeshow.

Other events for the Juneteenth Summer Celebration include a Celebrity All-White Affair hosted by actor Pooch Hall (The Game), a “Naturalista” Women’s Symposium, Diva Dialogue Women’s Forum featuring Hollywood actress Wendy Raquel Robinson (The Game), and a “Glam Slam” National Hair Show, and shopping with nearly 200 business exhibitors, just to name a few of the Expo’s many attractions! Corporate sponsors include H-E-B, America’s Natural Gas Alliance, Bud Light, Lilly, Nationwide, Comcast and Metro, among others.

The mission of the Texas Black Expo is to improve the quality of life of individuals in urban communities by strengthening businesses, inspiring youth, and building better lives. A portion of proceeds raised will be contributed to a scholarship fund to provide awards for deserving high school seniors.
