Black Elected Officials Take Stand Against School Violence

“Everyone must be held accountable”

WHO: State Representative Sylvester Turner and other Black elected officials

WHAT: News conference to speak out about recent violent incident at Thurgood Marshall High School in Fort Bend ISD

WHERE: Steps of the School of Public Affairs, TSU – 3400 Cleburne at Tierwester

WHEN: 11 a.m. – Thursday, May 3

“The fight between high school students at Thurgood Marshall High School in Fort Bend ISD, which was shown last night on KHOU Channel 11, was appalling,” says Rep. Turner. “Sadly this was not an isolated event. We are losing control of our schools, students, parents, teachers, and principals, while we forget that everyone must be held accountable. We as elected officials must speak to what is occurring. We are looking at the final four weeks of school and we are in desperate need to make our voices heard now.

“We have made our voices loud and clear in the Trayvon Martin case. We must also make our voices clear here. It is past time to stand up and do all we can to hold everyone accountable and say this outrageous behavior is unacceptable.”
