Schlumberger, Independent Petroleum Association of America and the American Association of Blacks in Energy lead as Event Sponsors
Houston, TX – April 19, 2012 – The National Association of Minority Mineral Owners (NAMMO) is proud to announce their first annual Energy Symposium, “Developing the Vision for the Future.” The much-anticipated event, which brings together national leaders in the oil and gas industry, will be held at Texas Southern University in Houston, TX, April 30th-May 2nd. Symposium panelists will focus on significantly impacting the quality of education and career choices available to minority youth.
The symposium offers a platform to educate minority mineral owners on their rights, as well as expose inner city youth to the vast opportunities that await them in the energy industry. Headquartered in the energy capital of the world, NAMMO recognizes the great responsibility that they have to provide minority youth with the knowledge and tools necessary to be a player in the oil and gas industry.
In their commitment to teach future generations about the oil and gas industry, NAMMO has partnered with Texas Southern University to establish a curriculum and a scholarship program.
“We are extremely excited about the proposed Petroleum Engineering curriculum TSU intends to add in the very near future. The efforts of NAMMO in identifying and encouraging area high school students to pursue a career path in the oil and gas industry is extremely visionary,” said TSU President John M. Rudley.
Thus far, committed symposium supporters include Mayor Annise Parker, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressman Al Green, State Representative Borris Miles, City Councilwoman Wanda Adams, City Councilman Larry Green, City Councilman James Rodriguez, TSU Energy Department, Schlumberger, Independent Petroleum Association of America, the American Association of Blacks in Energy, National Black Farmers Association, Elite Change, LLC and numerous others.
The National Association of Minority Mineral Owners was created to protect and enhance the property and mineral rights for its members. NAMMO focuses on increasing participation of minorities in areas where they have been historically under-represented, creating a real presence of minority owned businesses in the oil and gas industry.
