HOUSTON – JANUARY 2012 – The nominations are in and all the applications have been reviewed. Now the time is near for the winners to be announced. The 14th Annual Star Awards, themed “Business is Jazzed in West Houston” as business continues to hum an upbeat tune, will be held Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Omni Houston Westside Hotel. The Economic Development Summit and Star Awards Luncheon is the most prestigious business event in West Houston. Each year the HWCOC recognizes businesses that demonstrate outstanding fiscal performance and contributions to the West Houston community.

The Houston West Chamber of Commerce Star Awards Committee accepted over 230 nominations for the prestigious Star Award.

The Star Awards keynote speaker is Scott McClelland, H-E-B Houston Division President and with internationally acclaimed jazz pianist Gilbert Sedeno entertaining during the reception. Song stylist Yvonne Washington Trio will entertain guests during the luncheon.

David and Mary Wolff will be honored with the Chamber’s Impact Award for their commitment to West Houston. The couple has been actively involved in West Houston for the past five decades. David’s firm, Wolff Companies, developed the 550 acre Park 10, among other Houston developments. David is credited with naming the “Energy Corridor”, which is Houston’s third largest employment area. Wolff Companies recently acquired the largest tract of undeveloped land in the Energy Corridor, 66 acres on I-10 near Eldridge Road.

Also recently, David and Mary donated ten acres to Texas Children’s Hospital 55 acre West Campus, an extension of Mary’s dedication to the organization after many years of volunteering with young cancer patients. Additionally, David has served his community as the chairman of the board of the Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO), chairman of the Houston Parks Board, founding director of the Harris-Galveston Coastal Subsidence District, vice president and chairman of the Finance Committee of the Houston Grand Opera and founder and chairman of the West Houston Association. Mary currently serves on the Board of the Jung Center and has also served on the Board of St. Stephen’s School in Austin.
