HCC Southeast Students Paint Mural

Art Appreciation students work with local business owner to improve community aesthetics

HOUSTON (December 2011) – Art Appreciation students at Houston Community College – Southeast are painting a mural this semester for their class project. Fittingly, the theme for the mural will help the community appreciate art more, or at very least see it more often! The design, painted on the back wall of a convenience store bordering the college campus, depicts a room full of abstract artworks. This group of students has brought the sometimes exclusive, fancy art gallery outdoors for everyone to enjoy.

And the students understanding and personalities show through. Titled Le Mur, (French for “the wall”) the project is smart, funny and interesting, as it brings a glimpse of a traditional art display context into the public, everyday realm.

The public is invited to join the class for a reception Friday December 16, starting at 4:00 pm. The mural is on the back of Flowers Food Store, at the north end of the student parking lot at HCC Southeast.

Karen Brasier-Young, HCC Southeast’s current Artist in Residence, is the instructor of the class.

Southeast College’s Eastside Campus is located at 6815 Rustic Street, Houston, Texas 77087-2623.
