“With some people you spend an evening: with others you invest it. Be careful where you stop to inquire for directions along the road of life. Wise is the person who fortifies his life with the right relationships. If you run with wolves, you will learn how to howl. But, if you associate with eagles, you will learn how to soar to great heights.” Those words from Colin Powell are the basis upon which our next black business summit is built. Current and aspiring African-American entrepreneurs and business owners will gather to share, learn and discuss ways to operate a successful business and maximize the nearly $1 trillion economic powerbase within the African American community at the 2010 “IN THE BLACK III” Black Business Empowerment Summit on Saturday, August 21. It is from 9:00a to 3:00p at the Koinonia Community Center in Historic Third Ward, Houston. This summit — its third — is dubbed “Gathering of Eagles”.

This awe-inspiring event will have something for everyone — entrepreneurs, employees, employers, and students alike. Including a 2-hour workshop focusing on Interviewing techniques and Employment Issues into 3 parts: 1) one hour presentation, 2) 30 minute “Dress for Success” fashion show, and 3) a panel discussion with HR professionals answering questions from the audience headlined by Patricia Marie Carroll and author and motivational speaker, Brian Bolden.

Hear from the man Les Brown says is “one of the most powerful speakers in America”, Arthur L. Andrews and back for her second appearance, the “Dynamic Diva” herself, self-made millionaire Dr. Elon Bomani. The event will close with a unique, interactive company-building session by a businesswoman whose spent years dispensing pearls to Corporate America as a highly sought Corporate Coach, Denise Shanklin.

Be inspired to reach the pinnacle of our collective success while the founder of the Houston Black Book & Black Wall Street shares his vision of going forth into the 21st Century and much, much more.

“We love the possibility and the potential of our collective business minds united — that we can communicate to the world, break down barriers, open doors and maybe even change things for the better. We’re new to economic development and we’re making it up as we go along — but it is this ideal that inspires us,” Craig Amos, host and publisher, Houston Black Book.

“Now more than ever, the nation is dependent upon its small businesses to revitalize its economy,” said Dr. Elon Bomani. “I am pleased to support the “IN THE BLACK” Black Business Empowerment Summit again this year. We will provide information on various modern strategies and technologies that are available to help launch and sustain growth in attendees’ businesses.”

“The Houston Black Book African American Business Directory is a catalyst for current and future development of business and entrepreneurship for the city of Houston,” said Denise Shanklin, CEO & Founder of Money Week Houston — the largest financial literacy event in the state of Texas. “Through diverse partnerships within Greater Houston, a rebirth of our collective community is being created by bringing new ideas, resources and relationships together in the business community in its unique style, whereby new seeds of economic growth will occur.”

We plan to welcome up to 500 decision makers and company influencers to this summit. A $30 fee includes the workshops as well as a power lunch provided by Elite Caterers. Space is limited, so call 832-883-1675 to register or for more information; or go online to
