Wea H. Lee, Chairman, Southern News Group, Houston, Texas, has announced today the creation of the International Arts and Culture Council, a community based organization dedicated to an expansion of inter-cultural activities and services in the International District of southwest Houston.
“It is time for the rich, diverse cultures of Houston to come together and share their many talents and gifts with their neighbors. The International Arts and Culture Council, with its home base at the International Trade Center, will serve as a platform for all kinds of community activities including art classes, art expositions, seminars, technology and science expositions, auctions, instruction, teaching and learning opportunities, musical concerts and all levels of cultural events and presentations,” Lee said.
The Grand Opening luncheon-reception ceremonies will be held at the International Trade Center, 11110 Bellaire Blvd., on July 20th beginning at 11:30 a.m. The International Arts and Culture Council will be co-sponsored by the International Trade Center and the International Press Club and will initially feature a display of Asian and African art. The display of artwork will later be expanded to include art from around the world, in keeping with the center’s international theme reflecting the diversity of the community.
The International Trade Center, home of the International Arts and Culture Council, opened its doors in April of 2007 and has held many international business meetings and hosted many overseas visitors and delegations.
“The International Arts and Culture Council offers a unique opportunity especially to serious artists from around the world who want their works to be recognized by visitors from around the world. At the same time, the International Trade Center and
ITV International Television will be valuable resources for artists who want to actively promote their works to the international community,” Lee explained.
The International Press Club was formed in June 2010 and comprises close to 40 members from the international media in the Houston area. The press club is a fraternal journalism organization that recognizes, encourages and supports professional standards of journalism among its members. The group also supports projects and efforts in the community that promote understanding and bring together the diverse cultures of the area.
