New empowerment center poised to ensure local residents are prepared to take advantage of new employment opportunities being created by the booming energy industry.
[Port Author, Texas] – The Golden Triangle Empowerment Center and Small Business Incubator is pleased to announce its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of its Downtown Port Arthur location later this month on Tuesday, May 25th, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at 617 Procter St., Port Arthur, TX 77640. The guest speaker will be Pedro Garza, Regional Director for The US Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration. This great event is the reciprocating factor of the Port Arthur Small Business Summit, which was hosted at the Robert A. Bob Bowers Civic Center in October 2009 by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism in conjunction with many local organizations to spur economic development in the Golden Triangle.
GTEC as the organization is referred to, has one mission: To create self sufficiency and self advocacy opportunities for the individuals it will service through life skills education and job training. Focusing on the Port Author, Beaumont and Orange counties, the empowerment center will help local disengaged residents get the job training and the necessary skills to take advantage of the opportunities slated to be coming to the area in the near future. As a result of the industrial boom coming to the Golden Triangle region, GTEC is committed to making certain that the community is prepared to benefit from the onslaught of employment prospects and community growth it will bring with it.
The center’s ribbon cutting and grand opening will be an opportunity for regional and local government officials, heads of local organizations, industry executives, business owners and the community to learn how GTEC’s initiatives will increase job training and placement in Port Arthur.
“My excitement mounts as the days draw nearer to the grand opening of this fabulous building. We are so pleased that The Golden Triangle Empowerment Center will be located in our downtown area and will be available to our citizens. Looking forward to not only the new downtown addition, but also to having a full-size restaurant and coffee shop in this area,” says Mayor Deloris “Bobbie” Prince.
The event will also serve as an occasion for local organizations to observe some of the resources being created for Golden Triangle small businesses interested in doing business in Port Arthur. There will also be discussions about opportunities for public and private collaborations to revitalize downtown Port Arthur.
Pedro Garza, Regional Director, Economic Development Administration says, “EDA is proud to partner with the Digital Workforce Academy on this important project. The Golden Triangle Empowerment Center will support economic development and expand job opportunities for Port Arthur residents.”
