HCC Leaders Named to Who’s Who in Black Houston

Two Trustees and Two College Presidents Honored

Two Houston Community College trustees and two college presidents were named among Houston’s most influential leaders Monday, April 26 at the Four Seasons Hotel. This year’s Who’s Who In Black Houston™ focused on education and recognized the outstanding leadership at HCC. This is the fourth edition of the book.

Honored at Monday’s reception were Dr. Margaret Ford Fisher; Trustee Christopher W. Oliver; Dr. Michael P. Williams, HCC Board Chairman; and Dr. William Harmon.

Dr. Margaret Ford Fisher, president of HCC Northeast, pursued a career in education because of her passion for learning. Dr. Ford Fisher believes that community pro-activity for education is vital throughout the total community, but particularly in Northeast Houston

Christopher W. Oliver, HCC Trustee for District 9, sees education as the single biggest factor that changes people’s lives. His vision is for HCC to provide every student, even those who need a second chance, with opportunities to own their future. Oliver has served on the HCC Board of Trustees since 1995.

Dr. Michael P. Williams is the current HCC Board of Trustees Chairman. He has served as trustee for District 4 for the last ten years. Williams is the Founding Pastor of Joy Tabernacle and has served as Senior Pastor for Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Houston. He was honored this spring by his alma mater, Westminster College, with the coveted 2010 Westminster Lifetime Alumni Achievement Award. Williams is the author of three books and his articles have been featured in professional and popular journals.

Dr. William Harmon is the president of HCC Central. He develops and implements academic and career and technology training while augmenting student success and fiscal responsibility. His goal is to engage the community and increase the college’s learning corridor. Prior to coming to HCC in 2005, Dr. Harmon served as the Senior Vice President of the University of Virginia.

Who’s Who Publishing Company was founded in 1989 and has editions in 25 cities. It highlights the positive achievements of African Americans, and provides a valuable resource and networking guide for the community.
