The Metcalf CDC will put on the “Glam It Up” event for the YWCA W.I.L.D program on Sunday, January 31 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. located at 6309 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The W.I.L.D program is for young ladies between the ages of 18 and 24-years-old who are aging out of the foster care system in the Houston/Harris County Area. The participants will be pampered by professional hair and make-up stylists who will give them beauty tips and a makeover. They will then take part in a professional photo shoot. Event sponsors hope that “Glam It Up” will not only be a fun, outward makeover event, but that it will also help give these young ladies a positive self-image and boost their self-esteem. Lunch will also be included.
Project W.I.L.D (Women Independently Living and Developing) provides young ladies skills necessary to lead a life of self-sufficiency and sustainability. A Hallmark of the YWCA, the program offers Career Assessments, Personal and Professional Development, Group and Individual Counseling, Financial Empowerment, Higher Education Assistance, Room and Board and much more. Participants are required to go to school or be enrolled in a skill based program and or maintain a part-time job. The goal is to provide support, encouragement and skills to young ladies facing socioeconomic limitations. “The young ladies affiliated with this program have the opportunity to gain the skills needed to create a brighter future for themselves” said Felicia Colston, Metcalf CDC Program Director.
Other “Glam It Up” event sponsors include Blake’s BBQ, Stylz & Company, Tyler Iman Couture, Moore Global, Why Not Get Paid Entertainment and Material Girls Boutique. For more information on this event call 713.927.4389.
