The Let the Fashions Begin “2009 Men of Style” Gala will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. at the Galleria JW Marriott Hotel located at 5150 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77056. The Honorary Chairpersons are Dr. William and Beverly Harmon and Drs. Ayers and Salina Lalji. The Event Chairpersons are Constance Charles, Harriett Gertner and LaTricia Williams. This year, the organization will present the Judith L. Jones Award to a community leader that has elevated the visibility of this cause.

This year’s honorees are Dwight Boykins, President, Boykins Consulting; Peter Brown, Houston City Councilman; Len Cannon, Anchor, KHOU; Marcus D. Cosby, Pastor, Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church; Marcus Davis, CEO, Breakfast Klub; Terrence Fontaine, Senior Consultant, Reliant Energy; John Guess, Businessman and Art Consultant; James Harris, Director, Supplier Diversity, H-E-B; Bill King, former Mayor of Kemah; Layne McClanahan, CPA and Businessman; Ali Nasser, Principal, Houston Wealth Management Company; Dr. Nino Rainusso, Doctor at Texas Children’s Hospital; Ali Taghi, Owner, A. Taghi Fine Men’s Apparel; and Jonathan Zadok, Zadok Jewelers.

The 2009 Living Legend award will be presented to the esteemed Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell, Senior Pastor of Windsor Village United Method Church and Community Leader. “All of this year’s honorees are deserving and go beyond the call of duty supporting the community and have contributed to making Houston a better place for everyone to live”, says event Chairperson, LaTricia Williams.

Let the Fashions Begin, Inc. was founded by Judge Clarease Rankin Yates fourteen years ago. The event has raised over one quarter of a million dollars for sickle cell research in the past several years, and has over twenty sickle cell disease research projects which have been funded fully or in part by proceeds from “Men of Style”. Proceeds from this year’s Gala will benefit Texas Children’s Hospital Sickle Cell Center under the direction by Dr. Brigetta U. Mueller and Sickle Cell Patients.

Regarding the selection of recipients for this year, Chairperson Constance Charles says, “It was difficult because there are so many men in Houston who have contributed to the betterment of this community and it was extremely hard to narrow it down to a select few.”
