Bay Area Bluegrass Association (BABA) would like to invite you to the TEXAS STATE MANDOLIN CHAMPIONSHIP to be held on August 15th, 2009. Winner will received paid entry and represent the state of Texas in the national finals in Winfield, Kansas. Fee for contestants is $20.00 In addition to paid entry to the Winfield finals, the winner will receive The championship mandolin; second place contestante receives $300 and Third place contestant receives $150. Contest and jam will be held at the Johnny Arolfo Civic Center, 300 W. Walker, League City. The contest begins at 7:00 PM, but pickers are welcome to bring their instruments and come earlier to jam. Three jam rooms are available, including a slow jam for beginners. The BABA kitchen sells tasty, inexpensive food and beverages (NO ALCOHOL) at regular shows. We also offer bluegrass merchandise for sale, and have door prizes and raffles at every show.

Jamming is still free, jam rooms will still be available, and there is no admission charge to the audience for either the regular shows or for the mandolin competition.

Bay Area Bluegrass Association, known as BABA, organized 1986 and incorporated in 1987 under the Texas Non-Profit Corporation Act. The primary purpose of BABA is to preserve and promote Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel music as an American art form

A few of these events, teaching beginning musicians in our slow jams, furnishing bluegrass bands with a place to perform and polish their skills, support KPFT (listener-sponsored radio), The Seabrook Rotary, Crime Stoppers fund
raiser, Armand Bayou Nature Center’s Fall Festival, the Fire On The Strings Festival, Bluegrass In The Park at League Park; Dickinson Parks Dept. concert series; entertainment for area nursing homes, churches, and service organizations.
