The Greater Houston Partnership welcomes U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady to a roundtable discussion on the recently proposed federal tax deferral reform.

The roundtable discussion will include members of the Partnership’s Board of Directors, Public Policy committees and other local business leaders. Prior to the roundtable discussion, Congressman Brady will meet with the Partnership’s Tax and Fiscal Policy Advisory Committee. While the committee meeting is closed to the press, members of the media are welcome to attend the roundtable discussion.

Earlier this month, President Barack Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner unveiled components of the Administration’s budget plan relating to U.S. international tax reform. These components relate to certain reforms to the deferral of foreign earnings and the foreign tax credit rules. These proposals directly impact U.S. companies and their ability to compete in the global marketplace.

As a member of the Ways & Means Committee, Congressman Brady will provide insight into these recently proposed federal tax changes, as well as their effects to our region.

The Ways and Means Committee is considered by many to be the most powerful committee in Congress, with jurisdiction over 2/3 of the federal budget including taxes, Social Security, Medicare, international trade and welfare. Congressman Brady also serves on the Social Security and Trade subcommittees.

The Greater Houston Partnership, through its Tax & Fiscal Policy Advisory Committee, identifies policy issues that affect the business community and the economic climate of the region. Their continued work with elected officials and influential working groups help implement policies which ensure growth of the region’s economy and its businesses.
