PVAMU Gala To Celebrate Contributions to Engineering

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas–Prairie View A&M University, a recognized producer of African American engineers, will use its 2009 Gala to celebrate its College of Engineering through the theme “Celebrating Our Global Impact on Engineering and Technology”. The black-tie Gala will feature an expansive technology exposition and program, Sat., April 25 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. PVAMU alumnus Roy G. Perry, will serve as the honorary Gala chair.

Proceeds from the Gala will benefit the university’s endowment.

This year’s Gala will be preceded by the naming ceremony of the PVAMU College of Engineering, in honor of PVAMU alumnus Roy G. Perry, class of 1978. Perry made a name for himself when he became one of the first black executives at Dell, Inc. The university will host a special name dedication ceremony Thurs., April 23 in the Electrical Engineering Building on campus at 3:00p.m.

Graduating its first class in the 1950s, PVAMU’s College of Engineering has become one of the most prestigious and respected producers of talented engineers, computer scientists and technologists. The College has built its reputation on the quality of its research and the opportunities it affords its students and faculty, through partnerships with organizations such as NASA, Shell Oil Company, Exxon Mobil Oil Company, the U.S. Dept. of Defense and Texas Instruments. Housed in the university’s engineering complex, the College offers degrees in chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, computer engineering, engineering technology and mechanical engineering.
