Greater Houston Partnership Supports Comprehensive Immigration Reform

HOUSTON – On Thursday, June 5, 2008, the Greater Houston Partnership hosted a dialogue on immigration with His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, S.T.L, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston; Paul Murphy, CEO, Amegy Bank; and Charles Foster, President, Tindall & Foster, P. C., Attorneys At Law.

The Partnership Membership Meeting focused on the ethnic diversity of the Houston region’s work force and the many aspects of immigration reform. Featured speakers addressed the economic and social impact of undocumented workers on our regional growth and some basic principles of comprehensive immigration reform.
Chairman Chip Carlise, President and CEO Jeff Moseley, and Secretary John Hofmeister signed off for the Greater Houston Partnership’s support of comprehensive immigration reform legislation to achieve the following goals
• Secure our borders.
• Create an efficient temporary worker program
• Create a fast, reliable employment verification system
• Affirm employers’ accountability for hiring employees with legal status.
• Develop a process to deal with the illegal immigrants who are already here.
