The luncheon provided an overview of the ongoing uninsured and underinsured health care issues, staggering statistics regarding the overall health of African American’s and previewed what can be expected during the festival.
“We are privileged to live in a city where the Mayor’s health care initiatives proactively involve community leaders and businesses. Our goal is to continue and expand this partnership and event to different markets,” Rev. Leslie Smith, Executive Director of Families Under Urban Social Attack.
Mayor Bill White supports the event, as it reiterates his efforts to unite and inform Houstonian’s of the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle. Further the event hopes to give residents the right tools to eliminate the national ranking of “Fattest Cities in America” as stated in Men’s Fitness Magazine.
“We got involved because of the rising costs of health care, more uninsured citizens and the growing health concerns inside the African American community. The festival provides a comfortable environment to learn how to maintain and sustain a healthy life,” states Francis Page, Owner, Houston Style Magazine.
The annual Juneteenth Festival will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Houston’s Discovery Green Park. Discovery Green’s 11.78-acre site is landscaped & equipped with many large live and WiFi. The park was constructed to host events, festivals and performances. HJMHF promises to deliver on all the park has to offer.
