India is emerging as the third-fastest-growing foreign investor in the recession-hit US economy with an investment of over $7 billion in 2009. Citing a soon-to-be-published report by India-US World Affairs Institute and the University of Maryland, Holly Vineyard, deputy assistant secretary of commerce for Africa, the Middle East and South Asia acknowledged the positive Indian contribution.
“India is the third fastest growing foreign investor in the US,” noting Indians invested $4.5 billion in the US in 2008 and their investments grew by an estimated 60 percent in 2009.
The joint study also found Indian companies had made 372 acquisitions worth $21 billion in the US between 2004 and 2009 and created an estimated 40,000 jobs in the country.
IACCGH and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett have been focusing on encouraging Indian businesses to invest in Harris County and help create local jobs in our region. The Chamber had facilitated a trade mission to India led by Judge Emmett, GHP President Jeff Moseley and Port Commissioner Jim Fonteno and met major Indian Industrialists encouraging them to invest in and/or enhance their investment in our region

After the plenary session Dr. Latha Ramchand, Associate Dean, C.T. Bauer College of Business, University of Houston will host two separate panel discussions.
The first Panel “Think India” will feature Arshad Matin – President and CEO, Seismic Micro-Technology, Pankaj Dhume – Vice President, BMC Software, Sanjaya Sood, Vice President, Schlumberger and Francene Young/Alt – Vice President, Shell who will share the success stories of their companies investment and business in India
The second panel “Think Harris County” Harris County Judge Emmett will showcase the benfits of investing in Harris County and will be joined by Mani Iyer – President, Mahindra USA and Koti Narisimham –EVP & Country Manager, USA Larsen & Toubro who will share their experience of an Indian company investing in Harris County
The Luncheon Keynote Speaker will be Vik Malhotra, Chairman of the Americas, McKinsey & Company
Lunch will be followed by a Breakout session on the topic “Challenges & Opportunities of Entering the Indian Market” with a presentation by Nyamusi Igambi, US Houston Export Assistance Center, Houston
